    The cover above was mailed on October 18, 1908 from Providence to Mr. W. E. Putten in Portland Connecticut. The Drill Bit shown top left of the cover's face is a combination semi-high speed center drill and is also featured on the Reverse of a 1915 J.T. Slocomb corner cardto the Maxwell Motor Co. The reverse of this cover features a micrometer manufactured by J. T. Slocomb, (measures length in 1/millionth of a meter).

    J.T. Slocomb'Wholesale Specialty Metals' is listed in the Providence directory as currently in operation.

    On July 7, 1994 a judgment was issued against J. T. Slocomb Co. by the National Labor Board for a violation of their employees rights. It seems that they threatened their workers with layoff and discharge and then fired 11 employees for participating in a Union Organizing Campaign

    Add a photo to this gallery. The Mechanical Index (1904) (1904). John Tibbets Slocomb (JT) was an important manufacturer of micrometers. He began his career at the Bangor Foundry and Machine Company in 1881, then the Brainerd Milling Machine Company in 1885. Another employee had made a micrometer which other workers were borrowing. The utility of the device didn’t go unnoticed. Offered here a vintage tin containing seven J.T. Of Providence, Rhode Island, HSS Combined Drills & Countersinks, and six others. Lovely little collection straight from someones workshop of yore! Box Measures 3.25 (8.5cm) long x 2.5 (6.5cm) deep x 0.5 (1.5cm) high. Combined Weight 152g. US patent 559,820 Micrometer Gage was issued to John T. Slocomb of Providence, RI. It was granted on. Four features: improvement in adjusting for wear by using a two piece adjustable nut with internal threads and teeth on one face to engage the teeth o. There are two micrometers with the name 'J.T. Slocomb, Providence RI'. Can anyone tell me about these companies? I've always been interested in the history of the people and companies that made all this possible, and it is thrilling to be able to use the same tools that my Grandfather used so many years ago.
